The Chiangmai program takes place our Chiangmai Art Center in a wide park with grassy open spaces and huge old shady trees, situated on the grounds of the University, to which have been moved a group of old Lanna houses. The emphasis in Chiangmai is on the vibrant Northern mix of culture: ancient Mekhong traditions, influences from China and central Thailand, animism, shamanism, and the delicate playful arts nurtured within the old northern court.
Programs include Textiles (in collaboration with textile expert Patricia Cheeseman), Dance and Music, Flower Arrangement, Lantern Making, and Cooking using natural ingredients from fields and forest.
We offer a range of programs (see Types of Programs), from an afternoon's course, to several days or a week — each program is tailored to the need of the visitors. The larger-scale programs include visits to important historic sites (some not usually open to the public), as well as classic traditional dinners and other events, incorporating all the arts that the students have studied (see Options).
